Power industry tenders in October 2019: Asia-Pacific leads global activity

On comparing tenders activity in different regions of the globe, Asia-Pacific held the top position with 584 tenders and a share of 68.6% during October 2019, followed by Middle East and Africa with 111 tenders and a 13% share and North America with 100 tenders and an 11.8% share.

In fourth place was Europe with 54 tenders and a 6.3% share and in fifth place was South and Central America with two tenders and a 0.2% share.

On the basis of the last 12-month average, Asia-Pacific held a lead over others with 614 tenders, followed by Middle East and Africa with 142.

Thermal tops by technology in October 2019

Looking at tenders by the type of technology, thermal accounted for the largest proportion with 150 tenders and a 55.4% share, followed by solar with 82 tenders and a 30.3% share and hydro with 20 tenders and a 7.4% share.

Looking at power industry tenders divided by segment as tracked by GlobalData, T&D Project was the most popular segment during October 2019, with 358 tenders, followed by T&D Equipment (216) and Generation Equipment (163).

The proportion of tenders by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Supply & Erection: 342 tenders and a 40.2% share
  2. Project Implementation: 335 tenders and a 39.4% share
  3. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 142 tenders and a 16.7% share
  4. Consulting & Similar Services: 16 tenders and a 1.9% share
  5. Electricity Supply: ten tenders and a 1.2% share
  6. Power Purchase Agreement: six tenders and a 0.7% share.

Power tenders in October 2019: Top companies by capacity

The top issuers of tenders for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. Northern Indiana Public Service (United States): 2,600MW from two tenders
  2. NTPC (India): 1,090.29MW from two tenders
  3. Solar Energy Corporation of India (India): 600MW capacity from two tenders.
