The project is developed and owned by US Army Corps of Engineers.

Chief Joseph is a run-of-river project. The gross head of the project is 54.254m. The total number of penstocks, pipes or long channels that carry water down from the hydroelectric reservoir to the turbines inside the actual power station, are 27 in number.
