The project is being developed by Chenab Valley Power Projects. Jammu and Kashmir State Power Development, NHPC and PTC India are currently owning the project having ownership stake of 49%, 49% and 2% respectively.

Kiru is a run-of-river project. The hydro reservoir capacity is planned to be 41.5 million cubic meter. The net head of the project will be 117m. The total number of penstocks, pipes or long channels that carry water down from the hydroelectric reservoir to the turbines inside the actual power station, is expected to be 4 in number. The penstock length will be 276m. The penstock diameter will be 5.5m. The project is expected to generate 2,272 GWh of electricity.

Development status

The project construction is expected to commence from 2019. Subsequent to that it will enter into commercial operation by 2025.

Andritz Hydro will be the turbine supplier for the hydro power project. The company is expected to provide 4 units of francis turbines, each with 156MW nameplate capacity.
