It is a Steam Turbine power plant. The power plant can run on dual-fuel. The primary fuel being used to power the plant will be coal. In case of shortage of coal the plant will run on Heavy Fuel Oil. The fuel will be procured from Kalinga Block of Talcher Coal Fields in Odisha.

Development status
Post completion of the construction, the project is expected to get commissioned in February 2002.
Power purchase agreement
The power generated from the project will be sold to Transmission Corporation of Andhra Pradesh under a power purchase agreement. The offtake capacity is expected to be 2,000MW.
