Ruwais Substation, United Arab Emirates

Ruwais Substation is a 400/220kV substation located in Ruwais, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. The construction works on Ruwais Substation began in 2012. The project was commissioned in 2016.


The Ruwais Substation project is an upgrade substation being operated by Abu Dhabi Transmission and Dispatch.

The designed voltage level of the project is 400/220kV, while the operating voltage level is 400/220kV. The step-in voltage of the substation is 400kV and the step-out voltage is 220kV. The substation capacity is 280MVA.

Ruwais Substation has received approval from Regulation & Supervision Bureau to undertake the works on the project.

Contractors involved

Abu Dhabi National Oil was appointed by Abu Dhabi Transmission and Dispatch to undertake design and construction works of the Ruwais Substation.
