Yeywa, Myanmar

Yeywa is a 790MW hydro power project. It is located on Myintnge river/basin in Shan, Myanmar. The project is currently active. It has been developed in single phase. The project construction commenced in 2005 and subsequently entered into commercial operation in 2010.

Description

The project was developed by Sinohydro and is currently owned by Ministry of Electricity and Energy, Myanmar.

Yeywa is a reservoir based project. The hydro reservoir capacity is 2,600 million cubic meter. The gross head of the project is 197m. The total number of penstocks, pipes or long channels that carry water down from the hydroelectric reservoir to the turbines inside the actual power station, are 4 in number. The project generated 3,550 GWh of electricity. The project cost is $700m.

Development Status

The project construction commenced in 2005 and subsequently entered into commercial operation in 2010.

Contractors Involved

Voith Hydro Holding was selected as the turbine supplier for the hydro power project. The company provided 4 units of francis turbines, each with 200MW nameplate capacity.

Voith Hydro Holding supplied 4 electric generators for the project.
