NKT has completed cable repair works at the 600MW Gemini wind park offshore the Netherlands.
The wind farm, which supplies sustainable energy to 900,000 households, experienced a cable failure in the summer of 2024, affecting one of the export cables that connects it to the mainland.
Cable downtime can lead to substantial financial losses and a significant reduction in energy output.
The company quickly mobilised a repair team to execute the intricate task of jointing the replacement cable – critical to resuming normal operations at the wind farm, which is predominantly owned by Northland Power.
NKT service and installation executive vice-president Axel Barnekow Widmark stated: “NKT is pleased to have contributed to the swift repair of the Gemini connection, bringing the wind park back to full operational capacity and supplying sustainable energy to households across the Netherlands.
“Restoring a subsea connection is a complex operation that requires significant skills and expertise. We greatly appreciated the strong collaboration with the Gemini team on the job execution.”
