Energy solutions and services provider INNIO Group has secured a contract from VoltaGrid to supply 1.5GW of additional power generation equipment for behind-the-meter operations.

The order aims to strengthen the collaboration between the two companies in delivering on-site power solutions tailored for AI and high-performance computing data centres across the US.

It stipulates that INNIO will deliver 300 Jenbacher gas engines from its Type J624 and Type J620 series.

The engines will be integrated into VoltaGrid's proprietary QPac platform, allowing for rapid and scalable deployment.

Delivery of these units is due to be completed by 2028.

INNIO Group president and CEO Olaf Berlien said: “This landmark order underscores the strength of INNIO’s technology and our commitment to power the growth of AI.

“We are proud to deepen our collaboration with VoltaGrid as we help shape the evolution of energy infrastructure.”

INNIO and VoltaGrid have collaboratively developed a solution that facilitates data centre deployment and the utilisation of graphics processing units for workloads driven by AI.

This integrated platform, leveraging INNIO’s Jenbacher technology, provides a comprehensive power solution that includes prime, backup and peaking capabilities, ensuring operational versatility.

The system is designed to sustain full power and efficiency even at high ambient temperatures, with better transient performance to handle the fluctuating demands characteristic of AI computing environments.

The partnership also supports the integration of VoltaGrid’s power pack units with large-scale portable power systems for data centres, all powered by INNIO’s technology.

VoltaGrid CEO Nathan Ough said: “This is a major step forward in building the energy backbone for the AI era. Together with INNIO, we are delivering a scalable, grid-grade solution that offers fast response and eliminates the need for batteries.

“Our collaboration provides the speed, reliability and sustainability required to power next-generation data centres.”

In December 2025, INNIO Group announced that it would supply technology for a 104MW power plant in Texas, US.
