Synera Renewable Energy (SRE) has engaged Seaway7, a subsidiary of the Subsea7 Group, to handle the transport and installation of 35 inter-array cables for the Formosa 4 offshore wind farm in Taiwan.

The offshore works are set to begin in 2028.

The Formosa 4 project, with a capacity of 495MW, is situated around 20km from the coast of Miaoli County. It will feature 35 wind turbine generators.

This marks the third offshore wind initiative undertaken by SRE.

The development will include a 500MW offshore substation alongside a 500MW onshore substation, which will connect to TPC’s Fangli substation.

In addition, Seaway7 has been chosen as the preferred contractor for the cable installation on SRE’s Formosa 6 project, which involves the transport and installation of 57 inter-array cables. The finalisation of the contract is anticipated in 2026.

Seaway7 CEO Stuart Fitzgerald said: “We are looking forward to supporting SRE on the Formosa 4 project and being able to continue contributing to the Taiwanese offshore wind targets with our seventh contract award since entering the Taiwanese market in 2019.”

In February 2023, Seaway7 was contracted to install the inner-array grid and export cables for the Hai Long offshore wind project in Taiwan.

The contract's scope included the transport and installation of inner-array cables, as well as the respective cable protection systems and four export cables.

To carry out this project, Seaway7 will use the Maersk Connector cable-lay vessel, which is on long-term charter to the company.
