Industrial & Marine Silencers

Industrial & Marine Silencers - Attenuators, Silencers and Mufflers

Industrial and Marine Silencers Ltd. (IMS) supplies attenuators, silencers, mufflers and an array of associated services to the power industry. We provide both upstream and downstream solutions covering exhaust lines, steam lines, air intake duct work and support steelwork.

We offer more than the majority of our competitors. We pride ourselves on our 'turnkey' solutions, taking responsibility for all stages from design to installation and commissioning. This means that associated equipment can be offered either singularly or as a complete system.

OUR SERVICES

  • Site survey and design
  • Structural calculations to national and international standards
  • Manufacture of all items in a wide choice of carbon and stainless steels
  • Global delivery and installation
  • Testing and commissioning
  • An extensive selection of accessories (flanges, gaskets, bolting sets, pipework, elbows, sockets, nipples, expansion bellows and flexible pipe, brackets and hangers, roller chair brackets and guides)

APPLICATIONS

  • Internal combustion engines
  • Gas turbines
  • Fan blowers
  • Roots-type blowers
  • Vacuum pumps
  • High- and low-pressure steam and gas vents
  • Blow-down and purge systems

  • Vertical exhaust stack configurations
  • Catalytic exhaust silencers and spark arresters

STEAM VENT SILENCERS

The term 'vent silencer' was derived for silencers used to attenuate noise produced by the expansion of gas, steam or air at elevated temperature to atmospheric pressure. They serve a twofold purpose of reducing workplace noise levels to a desired occupational limit and the intrusion of industrial noise into residential areas.

They are used predominately to suppress noise generated by safety relief valves, process vents, dumping gas to atmosphere during compressor or boiler start-up sequences, depressurising lines for maintenance, ejector discharges and steam exhausts.

The standard designs are capable of accepting flow rates up to 377m³/s (800,000 ACM) at atmospheric pressure. If correctly sized, the silencer pressure drop should not exceed 0.5 BarG (7.35 PSIG).

The VT series is available in five versions with insertion losses from 20dB(A) to 54dB(A).

The open-ended standard units include support brackets or feet for vertical installation, drain point, lifting lugs, various inlets designed to restrict mass flow, bird guards and inlet flanges. Optional extras are rain cowl outlets, tailpipe or flanged outlets, sliding inlet connections and horizontal mounting brackets. The designs can be produced in a wide choice of materials to suit individual requirements, along with special designs for larger flows, axial inlets and multiple inlet applications.

We manufacture the IMS-MAXIM VT-S series. This is a vent silencer for relatively small gas flow rates. This single model is designed for the most severe noise applications and can be used to reduce high process vent noise to residential levels.

The VT-S silencers are absorptive types with an inlet diffuser. The acoustical is protected by a facing of glass silk cloth and fine wire mesh screen with a perforated metal facing, designed to give optimum acoustic performance.

VT-S type units can be used any time when a pressurised gas is being vented to atmosphere. Corrosive gases can also be treated with special design considerations. A few typical applications include, steam ejectors, small steam and gas vents, small process vents, turbine or compressor bypass systems, small safety and relief valves. The units are suitable for installation in the vertical or horizontal planes. VT-S silencers are limited to flow rates not exceeding 5.50 m3/sec (11,402 ACM) at atmospheric pressure. All sizes have been standardised to give optimum performance.

IMS MANUFACTURING PROFILE

The design and manufacture process is controlled by our own engineers, who have extensive knowledge of the industry and of individual trades. The latest computer aided systems are used, and the drawings are produced on AutoCad format.

Each process is followed and controlled by the quality control department to ensure the client's specifications are met.

The range of materials we use extends from standard mild carbon steels, Corten A & B, Boiler plate to BS-1501 up to stainless steel 304, 304L, 316, 316L and 321 types.

All final welding conforms to the requirements of BS-EN 288 Part III (1995)/ASM1 1X for procedures and BS-EN 287 Part 1 (1995)/ASM 1 1X for welder certification via internal testing and a certified welding institution.

The finishing processes for standard heat resisting paints are carried out on the company premises. More unusual finishes such as aluminium/zinc metal spraying, silicone sealing and galvanising can be offered as a sub-contract extra, along with specialist paint finishes. Completed equipment can be delivered to the client. The IMS team is conversant with most types of exhaust gas system, air intake layout and project management. So if your next exhaust or intake installation is from 30kW to 20MW (combined or individually) talk to the people who can cover it - right down to the last nut and bolt.
