Continental Controls Corporation - Fuel Controls for Gas Turbines and Reciprocating Gas Engines

Continental Controls Corporation is a leading supplier of fuel control products for both gas engines and gas turbine engines. All of CCC’s valves include a CPU integrated into a "smart valve concept". Mechanically all of the fuel valves provide an exceptionally fast response with minimal friction and hysteresis.

AIR FUEL RATIO CONTROL PRODUCTS FOR GAS ENGINES

CCC offers the best available control technology for air fuel ratio control on natural gas fired reciprocating engines such as Waukesha, Caterpillar and other popular packages. The ECV 5 Emission Control Valve includes all of the electronics to control the air fuel mix as part of the valve. There is no external driver box or other electronics to connect to. This single unit speeds up control loops while making the device much more reliable due to fewer components.

The ECV 5 Emission Control Valve provides a precise mix of air and fuel to a rich burn engine. When using the ECV 5 with a three-way catalyst, NOx, CO, and HC emissions are kept to a minimum. The ECV 5 has full control over the total gas stream, allowing the valve to assume load transients more effectively. The ECV 5 operates as a variable pressure regulator, accepting a direct signal from an O2 sensor located in the engine exhaust and slightly biases the pressure setting based on that input. This technique normally eliminates the requirement for at least one of the upstream pressure regulators. The ECV 5 is intelligent enough to recognize the health and status of the oxygen sensor.

FUEL CONTROL VALVES GAS TURBINES

CCC makes a range of fuel control valves for most gas turbines up to about 60,000bhp. These valves all include on board CPUs, with embedded software making them the most sophisticated fuel valves available for turbine engines.

AGV 10/50 GAS VALVE

The AGV 10/50 is a two-stage gas actuated valve that offers exceptional control and diagnostic information for small to mid sized gas turbines. The valve compares the fuel demand signal with a mass flow calculation in the valve to assure the most accurate fuel metering available. The flow measurement signals as well as other diagnostic measurements are available via RS 485 Modbus protocol. Because of the precise fuel flow measurement in the valve, the turbine starts more reliably and runs at a more stable speed than with other fuel valves. The AGV 10/50 is almost impervious to dirt or liquids and can withstand the most demanding environment.

AGV 7 GAS VALVE

The AGV 7 Gas Valve is a simpler valve that can control on either pressure or position but does not measure fuel flow. It is very fast at full stroke in less than 40ms. The AGV 7 has a smaller footprint that is similar in size to other gas valves that have been used in the past. The AGV 7 will work on gas turbines up to about 10,000bhp.

ALV 10 LIQUID FUEL VALVE

The ALV 10 offers precise fuel metering and measurement of liquid fuels such as diesel #2 or kerosene, as well as gas turbines. It includes a turbine meter to measure fuel flow.

CCC has fuel valves for the following turbines:

  • Solar Turbines- Saturn, Centaur
  • Allied Signal - ASE 8, 831, TF 15, TF 25, TF 40, ASE 120
  • Dresser Rand - DR-990
  • EGT -Hurricane, Typhoon, Tornado
  • General Electric-LM 500, LM 1500, LM 1600, LM 2500, Frame 3, Frame 5
  • Allison -501 KB, 501 KC,
  • Pratt & Whitney-ST6, ST18

  • Ruston-TA1500, TA1750, TA2500, TB4000, TB5000

MIXING VENTURI - GAS ENGINE MIXING BOWL

The Continental Controls Mixing Venturi is a device designed to precisely mix the fuel and air to be admitted to gas engines. The Venturi also measures the air flow to the engine. It is used with the Continental Controls ECV5 Emissions Control Valve to replace the carburetor and pressure regulator on both Rich-Burn and Lean-Burn gas reciprocating engines.

The VM-350 MixingVenturi and the ECV5 can be used with any single or dual bank natural gas engine in any application where one or more carburetors are used to meter fuel. The fuel metering is very precise in the Venturi, which means, engines using two or more carburetors can be balanced to provide the same air-fuel mixture from the two or more Venturies. The ECV-5 Emissions Control Valve is used with an appropriate O2 sensor to precisely control the fuel mixture for compliance with the emissions regulations.
