Together, Caterpillar and Cat® dealers have a social responsibility to protect the environment. In our ongoing efforts to make change possible, Caterpillar and participating Cat dealers are pleased to offer customers enrolled in customer support agreements (CSAs) the option to extend oil drain intervals on diesel 3500 series standby generator sets.

“Given the number of diesel 3500 series standby generator sets in operation worldwide, extended oil drain intervals would allow Caterpillar, Cat dealers and Caterpillar customers to protect the environment by reducing approximately 2.6 million gallons of waste oil annually,” said Kevin Benz of Electric Power Product Support. “This programme illustrates the global thinking that drives our efforts to find ways to support Caterpillar’s ongoing sustainability efforts. Our research demonstrates such extended drain intervals bolsters the long term value of using Cat generator sets.”

In addition to protecting the environment, this optional extended oil drain programme provides additional value to customers using Cat generator sets by lowering maintenance costs as well. Using a diesel 3516 generator set as an example, extending the time between oil drains results in 440 fewer gallons of waste oil in a typical five-year CSA term which can lower a customer’s fluids fill and fluids disposal costs.

The optional extended oil drain interval for diesel 3500 series standby generator sets is three years or 500 hours, whichever occurs first. This option is available to customers whose diesel 3500 series standby generator set is enrolled in a participating Cat dealer CSA that includes the following: use of distillate diesel fuel, Cat diesel engine oils, engine oil filters, fuel filters, air filters, extended life coolant and S•O•SSM services fluids analysis, as well as monthly engine operation. Extending oil drain intervals requires close consultation with the participating Cat dealer and strict adherence to Caterpillar guidelines to protect the equipment’s performance.
