GE Vernova’s gas power business and Iberdrola Mexico have begun commercial operations at the 766MW Topolobampo III gas-fired power plant in Mexico.
Located in Sinaloa state near the Topolobampo natural gas pipeline, the combined-cycle power plant is equipped with GE’s 7HA.01 gas turbines.
It will support Mexico’s renewable energy grid and power 1.6 million homes.
The power plant is integrated with GE Vernova’s advanced technology for enhanced efficiency and digital capabilities.

The system uses real-time data for better outcomes to provide stable and efficient operations. The package can also improve Iberdrola’s asset management.
CERREY, a local licencee of GE Vernova, supplied the heat recovery steam generators.
The 7HA.01 turbines reach full power in under ten minutes, bringing much-needed flexibility to the grid.
The turbines are also capable of using hydrogen-blended natural gas, paving the way for future fuel transitions.
GEIQ, GE Vernova’s advanced engineering centre in Queretaro, Mexico, has provided essential engineering support and will continue to oversee the plant’s operations.

GE secured the order for the Topolobampo III combined cycle power plant from Iberdrola in June 2017.
