Tata Power Renewable Energy (TPREL), a subsidiary of Tata Power, has commissioned a 300MW solar project in Koppal, Karnataka, that will supply power to the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI), a government-backed entity.

The new facility was developed by TP Saurya, a wholly owned subsidiary of TPREL.

TPREL expects the solar project to deliver 810 million units of renewable electricity every year.

The project is expected to reduce CO2 emissions by an estimated 103,820t each year.

The Koppal plant uses solar tracking systems that follow the sun's movement to maximise power output throughout the day.

It uses TP580HG10NB bifacial solar modules, which are designed to improve energy yield by capturing light on both sides of the panel.

This technology supports more efficient use of the project site and contributes to the overall power generation.

With the project now commissioned, TPREL reports a total utility-scale renewable capacity of 12GW.

Of this, about 7.2GW is in operation, including 5.8GW of solar and 1.3GW of wind. The remaining 4.9GW is at various stages of development.

TPREL said women make up nearly 40% of the workforce at the site, with 16 holding roles such as site managers and engineers. Their responsibilities span both technical operations and management.

The company’s latest project is part of a broader effort to increase renewable energy availability and support India’s shift towards cleaner power sources.

In August 2026, TPREL commissioned a 190.5MW solar project in Kalasar, Rajasthan, India, as part of tranche-1 of the SJVN firm and dispatchable renewable energy (FDRE) initiative.
