Norwegian renewable energy company Statkraft has completed the sale of its UK green hydrogen development assets, concluding a divestment process first announced in May 2025.
Statkraft has transferred its hydrogen portfolio in the UK to Kentron Green Nordic, an entity with Norwegian ownership and operations in the UK.
The sale is part of Statkraft’s decision to halt the development of new green hydrogen projects across all markets.
The company had previously indicated that while it would cease initiating new projects, it was committed to continuing the development of its existing mature portfolio in the UK, seeking investors to progress these ventures into construction and operational phases.
Kentron Green Nordic, which develops a range of renewable energy projects including wind farms and green ammonia initiatives, has now acquired Statkraft’s UK hydrogen assets. These divested schemes will join a pipeline that already includes the Neptun Tromsø and Neptun Glomfjord green ammonia projects in Norway.
Additionally, Statkraft’s stake in Grenian Hydrogen, a joint venture, has been sold to its current partners Progressive Energy and Foresight.
The company confirmed that its UK operations will continue to contribute to broader group objectives, focusing on investment and development in solar, onshore wind, hydropower and grid stability services.
Statkraft’s previous strategy included developing green hydrogen projects in European countries including Norway, Germany, Sweden, the Netherlands and Italy.
Some of these projects in the UK, including one in Scotland, have obtained external funding, with others shortlisted for possible government support.
Earlier this month, Statkraft received planning approval for the Trerice Solar Farm in St Dennis, Cornwall, after winning a planning appeal.
The project will feature a 32MW solar farm, a battery energy storage system and related infrastructure.
Statkraft stated that the site will produce enough renewable electricity each year to provide power for more than 10,000 homes.
