Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) of India has placed an order with KE-Burgmann Flexibles India for 456 units of non-metallic / fabric expansion joints for their 4 x 500MW Thermal Power Corporation Limited (NTPC) Talcher project. This order is the biggest single contract for fabric expansion joints ever to be placed in India.

Though the original specifications asked for elastomer coated fabrics as the outer cover material, both BHEL and NTPC opted for the latest technology in PTFE laminates after having reviewed our documents. The Flex-Gen® type expansion joints from KE-Burgmann were approved for flue gas and high temperature applications.

A comparative study made by our customer between the old technology (silicone coated glass fabric made in India) and the new technology (PTFE laminated glass fabric) clearly showed the advantages with our solution in terms of corrosion resistance, high temperature resistance, and burst strength characteristics.

The Flex-Gen® expansion joints were manufactured and delivered to site, where our personnel supervised the installation of the expansion joints.

Latest update: the 3rd expansion joint unit has already been commissioned and has been running for more than one year, without experiencing any problems with the expansion joints.

KE-Burgmann Flexibles India Pvt. Ltd. is a 100% owned subsidiary of KE-Burgmann A/S, Denmark, who has more than 40 years of experience with expansion joints, both fabric, rubber and metal.
